End Grain Chopping Boards
End grain is the board serious cooks choose for heavy daily prep. Each board is built from blocks of premium acacia turned on end, so your knife cuts into the ends of the wood fibres instead of across them. The fibres part around the blade and close up again, which keeps your edges sharper for longer and helps the surface hide knife marks over time.
Why choose end grain?
- Kindest to your knives: the blade slips between the fibres rather than slicing through them.
- Self-healing surface: cut marks close up, so the board stays smoother for longer.
- Solid and stable: thick, heavy boards that stay put while you chop.
- No plastic in your food: worn plastic boards can shed tiny particles; a wooden board has none to shed.
- Handcrafted: the checkerboard grain makes every board one of a kind.
Which end grain board is right for you?
- Small End Grain Board (356 × 254 × 26mm): compact everyday board for smaller kitchens.
- Square End Grain Board (356 × 356 × 40mm): heavy-duty prep and carving, with a juice groove.
- Round End Grain Board (356mm × 40mm): the same heavy-duty build in a round shape that doubles as a serving board.
- End Grain Prep Board with Compartments (457 × 356 × 38mm): carved compartments on one side for organised prep, juice grooves on the other for carving.
End grain or long grain?
End grain is the go-to for heavy daily chopping and knife care. Long grain boards are usually lighter, lower maintenance and easier to move around, and they are ideal for everyday chopping and serving. Prefer long grain? See our Chopping Blocks & Boards.
Caring for end grain
End grain is more absorbent than long grain, so oil it a little more often, especially when it is new. Hand wash only, never soak, and keep it nourished with our Wood Care range.
