Hot toddy recipe

Hot toddy recipe

A hot toddy is a classic traditional winter drink. It is the perfect warm cocktail for any cold winter night.

The traditional hot toddy recipe consists of:

  • A Base liquor
  • Honey
  • Lemon
  • Tea or warm water

It is believed that the hot toddy was invented in the 18th Century in Scotland. It was enjoyed in the cold months of the year.

Typically known as a hot whiskey in Ireland or a grog for the rum base.

Can a hot toddy really cure colds?

We are not sure if it is an old wives tale or if it really cures colds, but it is a tasty drink for the cold winter nights.

It is known that any hot drink with citrus and honey helps ease the symptoms of a cough and cold.

How to make a hot toddy?

Ingredients:

  1. Add Earl Grey tea bag to a coffee mug full of hot water and allow to steep for 3-5 minutes.
  2. Meanwhile, in a warm glass mug, add the honey or sweetener. Add spirit, and lemon juice, and stir to combine.
  3. When the tea has steeped, remove the tea bag and pour liquid into the glass mug. Mix well. Garnish with aromatics: a whole cinnamon stick, star anise, a lemon peel studded with whole cloves, or a slice of lemon.
